The cyclone that hit Chennai a few days ago left the city flooded with horrifying incidents of many deaths, people stranded helter-skelter, businesses shutting down their operations and the government stands as an onlooker. When the natural disasters hit any part of India, it has been observed that the common citizens are left to fend for themselves. Media makes noise and the politicians make statements, and later the state and central governments release some funds to tackle the situation after the big damage has been done. Cyclone, landslides, and floods are not uncommon in India, considering its diverse geographical presence. The lives of innocent visitors, teens, women, old, were taken away in a trice by a cruel turn of events in Morbi, Gujarat Sunday night, when a bridge collapsed. Around 135 people, including 47 children, have died in this unforeseeable gruesome tragedy. The suspension bridge was recently repaired by a construction company Oreva Group, but was opened for public without securing the fitness certificate from the government authorities. Those involved in the repair work have been booked by the local police and a high level committee has been formed to investigate the matter further.  The unfortunate visitors were sold tickets to walk on the bridge, but little did they realize that it was a bridge between life and death. The bridge snapped and in a moment all fell into the river. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has created a history by using its heaviest rocket LVM3 to successfully launch 36  satellites into their intended orbits. The launch was conducted around midnight on Sunday, October 23 at 00.07hrs local time from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, in Sriharikota, India. "It is the first multi-satellite mission with 36 OneWeb Satellites to the LEO as the heaviest Payload mass of 5,796 kg. of LVM3 till date," as cited by ISRO on its website. India has increased its purchase of crude oil from Canada. This new development is the result of the price drop in the Canadian oil price. Over 3 million barrels of crude grade produced in oil sand of Alberta will be arriving in India next month. Canada has come up with the widest discount on crude oil price in nearly four years. The decline in the price is believed to have been caused by the lesser demand from the US Midwest. India saw this as an opportunity to take advantage of the situation amidst Western sanctions against Russian crude oil, which expected to be tightened further in few weeks. In light of tightening wester sanctions, some Indian refineries have put on hold the purchases on Russian crude oil for time being. Supreme Court of India has ruled in favor of all women who wish to get an abortion, irrespective of their marital status. The ruling clarifies all the doubts concerning 2021 amendments in the abortion law which did not clearly mention single women in the list of groups. The plea was made to include single women as well. The court is of the opinion that excluding an unmarried woman who has been in a consensual relationship cannot be considered constitutional. Although abortion has been legal in India since 1971, but due to the abortion of millions of female fetuses across the country, authorities made stringent rules against the process. In 2021, the Indian government amended the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, which allowed several groups of women for abortion, but did not clearly mention anything about single women.  As per the act, women for genuine reasons such as rape, minors, mental disabilities, etc. could go for abortion within 24 weeks of pregnancy. One of the India's greatest comic and mimicry artists, Raju Srivastava (originally, Satya Prakash Srivastava), finally gave up the battle for life on September 21 after being on ventilator for 41 days in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He was rushed to the hospital on August 10 after he suffered a massive heart attack while working out in a gym. The whole nation is mourning his death as he had touched the hearts of every Indian through his comedy, laughter and positivity. As per the reports, his body will be cremated in New Delhi. TATA Group is planning to invest US$90 billion by 2027 in new industries such as electric vehicles, semiconductors, renewable energy, batteries and ecommerce. As per the group's new strategy, it intends to set up these manufacturing units in India itself, rather than focusing on international market.  TATA has been expanding its presence in aviation industry, having recently acquired  Air India for INR 18,000 crore (approx US$2.25 billion at current rate). India has been shocked by the untimely and accidental death of one of the billionaires, Cyrus Mistry. He was not just a business tycoon, but a business tycoon belonging to TATA group of companies. Once, he held the position of the chairman of Tata Group from 2012 to 2016.  His net worth was close to US $29 billion at the time of his death, while he owned 18.4% stake in Tata Sons. India has, for the first quarter (April-Jun) of this fiscal year, shown a high Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth at 13.5% year-on-year, while the entire world is struggling with economic crisis. China could barely manage 0.4% of GDP growth, while United States has only shrunken by 1.6% during the same period. The outperformance by world's fastest growing economy could have been fueled by the reopening of service sector, high private consumption (around 26%) and fixed asset investments.
