After the resignation of Liz Truss, the former strong contender for the prime ministerial role, Rishi Sunak has been elected unopposed as the leader of the Conservative Party. He is expected to be appointed as the 57th PM of the United Kingdom on 25 October by the King Charles III. Sunak, 42, would become the first non-white, the first British South Asian and the richest individual to have become the prime minister of the country. He is also younger than all his predecessors except William Pitt the Younger. Sunak holds MBA from Stanford University and he and his wife Akshata Murty are the 222nd richest people in Britain, with a combined fortune of £730m as of 2022, double the wealth of King himself.  Sunak was Chief Secretary to the Treasury from July 2019 to February 2020 followed by his appointment as Chancellor of the Exchequer, the position he held till Boris Johnson's resignation as PM in July 2022. In a close contest, between Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak, the UK's Conservative party elected Ms Truss as the next prime minister and leader of the party. She won 57% share of vote while Mr Sunak received 43%, in the intra-party contest. Ms Truss would become the third woman prime minister in the history of Britain. She is set to replace the 55th prime minister Boris Johnson, who has been holding the post since 2019.   Meanwhile, Priti Patel, Home Secretary of UK, has resigned from the post. In her resignation letter to Boris Johnson, she said, "I congratulate Liz Truss on being elected our new leader, and will give her my support as our new prime minister." She also added, "From the backbenches, I will champion many of the policies I have stood up for both inside and outside government." In her tweet, Ms Truss says, "I am honoured to be elected Leader of the Conservative Party. Thank you for putting your trust in me to lead and deliver for our great country....
