Abe was assassinated in July this year. He was the longest serving political figure in the country. The government has planned a state funeral for him in September, which is being challenged by Japanese people. Hundreds of protesters are demanding to cancel the state funeral as they believe that Abe's policies were pro-war.
Such state funerals are reserved for emperors in the country. If the government proceeds with the plan despite the opposition from the citizens, it is estimated to cost around US$ 12 million with other hidden expenses.
