Saturday morning, the parallel rail-road Kerch bridges connecting Russia and Crimea were blown up by a massive explosion. The bridges are considered strategic and crucial to the supply-chain between both the sides. Moscow was also using it to send war equipment and military troops to attack north Kherson of Ukraine.
Russia has blamed a truck bomb attack for the damage. While Ukraine said that it is just the beginning. However, it is believed that the explosion was caused by a fuel tanker blast.
The local security video footage shows railway carriages and part of the rail bridge engulfed in flames. Part of road bridge collapsed due to the impact of the explosion.
The kerch bridges are the only rail-road link between Russia and Crimea. Russia had annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014 and subsequently built the bridges in 2018.
This incidence is a big blow to Russia, while for Ukraine, it is an occasion of celebration.
