Four people who were trapped in the collapsed convenience store in Yuli have already been rescued by the fire department. However, over 600 people are still trapped on the Chike and Liu Shishi mountain as the roads have been blocked. There is no report suggesting any injuries, and rescue operation is on to reopen the roads.
A bridge was reported to have collapsed during the quake throwing people and vehicles off the bridge. Three people involved in this incident have been rescued and sent to a hospital.
Over 7000 people are experiencing power cuts in Yuli, while the water pipes have been damaged too.
As per the weather department, the earthquake was first reported in Taitung county on Saturday causing no casualties. The quake was felt throughout Taiwan shaking few buildings in the capital city Taipei, without causing any damage.
Taiwan is prone to earthquake as it lies close to the junction of two tectonic plates.
