Taiwan has been complaining about military intimidation by China, however the latter has dismissed any such behaviour from its side. Although, China has been exercising military drills near Taiwan after US politician Nancy Pelosi made her visit to Taipei.
Increasingly, the Chinese drones have been flying over or near Taiwan's territory. Taiwan has expressed its displeasure over this act and called it a harassment and intrusion by the neighbour.
As per Kinmen Defence Command, three civilian drones were found flying over Kinmen Islands, very close to Xiamen, on the evening of 30th August. After firing warning flares, the Taiwan military shot live fire at drones, thus, driving them away.
Tsai-Ing-Wen, the president of Taiwan, has ordered its military to take all necessary and strong countermeasures. She is of the opinion that her country should express more calmness even if the enemy provokes, thereby, avoiding any opportunity for the otherside to create any conflict.
She also favours maintaining self-restraint while not provoking any dispute with the otherside. However, she is quite firm when it comes to countering the enemy, if it crosses the line.
Recently, her cabinet proposed around US$19 billion (T$586.3 billion), a record high budget, for next year to upgrade Taiwan's defence power. The proposed spending would include funds for new fighter jets and other equipments.
